    Why he matters: The rapper, born Bobby Ray Simmons, has been around for nearly five years, but his debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, finally saw its release last month and shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Like his ATL counterparts OutKast, B.o.B crosses genre barriers, infusing indie rock, techno, and other disparate elements into his hip-hop mix.
    You should know: "Airplanes," the breakout single from his new album, features guest vocals from the unlikely combination of Eminem and Paramore's Hayley Williams.
