When asked what section of the music store his chart-topping debut album should be filed under, Atlanta-based MC B.o.B ponders for a moment, then simply states, “the music section.” One listen to his genre-defying B.o.B. Presents The Adventures of Bobby Ray, and it’s clear that he’s not just another hip-hop phenom. Sure, he can rap, but he can also croon like John Legend — not to mention play guitar, piano, trumpet and the French horn. And while the album features guest spots from hip-hop heavyweights Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, and T.I., you’ll also find cameos from such surprising artists as Rivers Cuomo from Weezer and Hayley Williams from Paramore.
ShockHound has been sold on B.o.B’s talents since first hearing his shoulda-been-a hit-single “I’ll Be In The Sky” back in late-2008 — and interviewing him at the SXSW festival in 2009 — so we were elated to have the charismatic multi-instrumentalist drop by our headquarters for an exclusive Shock Sessions performance and interview, the same afternoon he discovered that his debut album had landed the Number One overall spot on the Billboard album charts.
Hit the “play” button above to check out B.o.B’s captivating acoustic set, which includes stripped-down versions of “Lovelier Than You,” “Letters From Vietnam,” and “Nothin’ On You.” And don’t miss our video interview where B.o.B expounds upon his famous collaborators, the breakout success of “Nothin’ On You,” the influence of Coldplay on his music, and the perfect day in the life of Bobby Ray . — Randy Bookasta
