    hip hop and black people.....help

Whats up my brotha's and sista's?  I am trying to get hip hop back into what it really is:Relative music for people that have no one to relate to.  It is a movement that I am starting up and I have no resources.  I have been in america for 5 years of my life and I can say, I do not like what I see when it comes to the hip hop and the message being put out to these kids and adults for that matter.
I know I am one person and y'all get a billion messages a day, but THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!!!!  I am tired of going for a walk in my complex at night and people hesitating to walk past me because of what they think I represent!!!
I have lived all over the globe and the hip hop look is horrible, in fact its disgusting how people view us as black people all together. Everywhere I have lived, I had to up hold this image of a thug because thats what I thought I was supposed to be because of the sterotype they have on us.  My parents always told me to be myself, but that is hard growing up when all of your peers have an image of what you are supposed to be.  I didnt know any better at the time but now, I am grown and understand that this sick picture that has been portrayed has been done by the hands of the industry.  And we sit back and continue to put this stuff out like its okay!!!  Its not.

THIS HELPS THEM KEEP THE STERO-TYPE OF NATURAL SUPERIORITY ON US AS BLACK PEOPLE.

IF YOUR BLACK YOUR A GANGSTER OR A THUG!!! and im far from either but thats how they view us even in slacks and a tie.

so i am asking you, are you willing to help if not then cool?  But this movement will happen sooner or later, its just how and when.  I want it now as well as millions of other real hip hoppers and real music lovers!!!

Why dont i thnik people would avoid me? Whats that supposed to mean? I dont walk around in gangs, people have no need to avoid me,im a good citizen. I thought we just came to some sort of agreement then i saw that? Am i taking this the wrong was or summit?

Ralph_2's picture

Ahhh i totally see where your coming from now. And yeah, i do wish i was black tbh. And sorry if i came across to be a bit of a nob. It was nice talking to ya, thanks.

KNAVISHRED's picture

and you you DONT BELIEVE PEOPLE WOULD AVOID YOU. what you beleive and whats reality are to different things.

good shit ralph. i live in high wycombe and newquay for 3 years. ive seen the way yall do things. and to me it doesnt matter where you are. if you see ANYONE in a hoodie at night regardless your mind starts to run all over the place. will hey shoot me, stab me, rape me, etc. but at the same time its mostly black people that get the grunt of the issue about it.

And just cuz we got a black man for our face doesnt mean shit! he is just sayin what they tell him to say. he is not doin anything for anyone. they black people in america only follow him cuz they think he will have their backs but in reality he doesnt. all it does is make the ignorant follow a skin color. obama was put into office to get the black votes on his parties side thats it. its an image that sells. just like rap. and they exploit it to the fullest. not caring what will happen just as long as they get that all mighty DOLLAR!!!!

and like i thought. your white! we sterotype yall to! dont get me wrong. if you see a white boy wearing baggy pants, likes hip hop, he is a wanna be thug! you know what i mean. everything has a catigorey and i dont like it at all but since i am black, have lived all over the world, and seen what it means to be black to others, i know what its like first hand.

i get white people always saying your just making shit up. well okay fine whatever. in my 24 years of being here i dont have to make it up. ive lived it....IN EVERY COUNTRY IVE BEEN IN! you know what im sayin?

as far as the gangs go.....look around you! where ever the hoods are, that is where those people were placed a long time ago and now they are trained to think that is the only way of life becasue that is what the RAP music is saying....not HIP HOP. there is a big difference. hip hop is relative music like i said. its not about guns, drugs, sex, and murder!!! that is rap and some how rap and hip hop got intertwined and it shouldnt be. good convo my dude. for real!

Again dont asssume what i think or believe. I dont listen to the media, dont assume what i think.

Whys my point about Obama invalid? im not black and dont fully understand the politics that go on in your country but surely a black president must stand for something?

AND DONT ALWAYS TALK IN CAPITALS...NO DISRESPECT BOSS

Ralph_2's picture

Youve basically just recycled your first argument, but longer, with bigger words and points with no explaination that you wont back up. First i didnt say it wasnt a discussion, im only discussing my point of view. And im white, live in london and i have lived in america and stayed in lots of different states in order to watch rappers i like. And i have seen what other people say about black people in rough areas, and thats because there are mainly black people doing that shit people generally dont like. And white people assume you would like rap because blacks are mainly associated with that genre, whereas white people aren't tied down to one genre of music. And how many people who meet you ask if your a gangsta as the first few things they say? I bet none.

And im not "talking about what i think i know when i dont know." Well everything i said was common sense, or fact. And ive not had "Lived it first hand in brooksi" but in London, this doesnt happen, and theres a large black population in london. Ive not lived in america for too long, but it wasnt a hell of a lot different from London.

And as far as blaming rap souly for this is abit far, i dont mean to sound racist or anything, but like i said it is mainly blacks out there in gangs, and then some people see that and make the link between gang crime and black people. However i dont completely disagree with your point of labels selling images and how that may hurt reputations and i may have been harsh before, but it isnt the only thing working against you.
And you automatically assume that ive had no experiance of this and call me ignorant? Makes sense...

And that isnt what a stereotype is, thats common sense. If a group of black males are approaching you in black hoodies, you dont walk into them in rough areas. Especially if you are old or vulnnerable. But if your on your own, black, in a decent area and dont look intimidating i dont believe people would avoid you.

KNAVISHRED's picture

AND YOU CANT USE OBAMA HOMIE!!! HE IS THE FACE OF AMERICA!! really guy?

KNAVISHRED's picture

and no disrespect boss.....

KNAVISHRED's picture

first of all this is a disscusion. not an attack on someones opinion.

let me ask you, are you black? have you ever lived anywhere besides your birth city, let alone another country? have you ever seen what people think and say about black people in another country? the way they view us?

the first thing you get is awwww...do you like hip hop? do you rap? gangsta this and gangsta that? like i have said, the image is nasty EVERYWHERE!!!! MORE SO IN OTHER COUNNTRIES! your talking about what you think you know when you dont know.

and yes in other countries, that is what it is. sterotyping because of rap. and also in america its the same damn thing. i will not conform to what they think i should look like if i dont want to be viewed as a thug! your going off of what experience with this? ive lived it first hand broski!

and i am blaming rap for this problem SOULY!!! THESE LABELS SELL A IMAGE AND THATS WHAT THEY USE TO GET MONEY! BUT THOSE IMAGES ARE HURTING BLACK MEN AND WOMAN. your so ignorant to the fact that you have the nerve to talk about something you havent experienced. and i knw you havent cuz you wouldnt be saying what your saying..

and thats what a sterotype is.......IF YOU LOOK LIKE A THUG THEN PEOPLE WILL AVOIID YOU!!!!! you said that...im telling the truth about what people see your talking about what the media tells you. so who is sterotyping again.....rethink your argument before you come incorrect.

Ralph_2's picture

And don't blame rap as a industry for your problem, there's plenty of artists out there who don't rap about guns, sex and drugs. I'd say that's a stereotype...

Ralph_2's picture

You think people are sterotyping black people as thugs purely because of rap? White people don't hesitate to walk past blacks, in fact the majority of people who listen to rap are white, and ive never met anyone with such a stupid opinion. If you look like a thug, then people will avoid you. Do you think people avoided Obama because could of been gang affiliated? Bullshit.
